Tommy Gunns Cafe

Let me start off by saying I love this place! Tommy Gunns Cafe is a unique restaurant with mouth-watering food. Even the names of the dishes are fun… Machine Gun Kelly, Baby Face Nelson, The Snitch, Pretty Boy Floyd, The Bonnie and Clyde Special, just to name a few. They are known for their well-dressed grilled sandwiches and “Bada Bing Peppers”–sausage and cream cheese stuffed peppers, wrapped in bacon and grilled with their Sweet Smokey Hickory Sauce. Are you getting hungry yet? They also have delicious desserts and a variety of thirst-quenching specialty drinks, including fruit ginger ale spritzers and root beer floats with homemade ice cream.

The decor is an eclectic mix of flea market meets backyard barbeque. One of my favorite “pieces of flair” is the hot pink mannequin on the cozy front porch. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and they recently put in an outdoor stage for live entertainment. And who’s da boss of this fine establishment? That would be 17-year old Andrea Gaylor, who along with her mother and Bill Owens “of Owens Music Store” as mentors, established a unique teen clothing store–Electra Fried Chicks, featuring Toms shoes and Global Mommas (both fighters of world poverty).

Tommy Gunns Cafe is located in historic downtown Bastrop at 711 Pine Street. They are open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30am-6pm, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10:30am-10pm, and Sundays from 10:30am-8pm. They also offer take-out, catering, and reservations, although walk-ins are always welcome. For more info, visit

Update: Tommy Gunns closed. As of June 2012, Bastrop Bling Company is now in that building.

  1. Actually, Bastrop Bling Company is located in the 2 story maroon building on the west side of this building. The old Tommy Gunn's Cafe building now houses Volk Custom Homes.
