Maxine's on Main

First of all, Texas Monthly rated Maxine’s one of “The 40 Best Small-Town Cafes in Texas.” How cool is that??? Of course, if you’ve tried the food, you already know that it’s scrump-dilly-ump-tious! Plus, Maxine’s is one of the only restaurants in Bastrop that serves breakfast. The decor is historic yet funky, with vintage posters and rustic signs on the walls, bicycles hanging from the ceiling, and an old iron headboard as a pot rack. It is also important to note that Maxine’s is now a completely non-smoking establishment.

Since 1997, folks have enjoyed the homestyle country cooking at Maxine’s on Main Street in historic downtown Bastrop. Guests come back again and again to this cozy restaurant for the delicious griddle cakes, legendary burgers and award-winning chili, not to mention the great coffee. And if the waitresses are ever busy, you can serve yourself from the fresh pot on the counter… just make yourself at home.

Whether you’re looking for a warm slice of homemade pie or a crisp salad with farm-fresh veggies, Maxine’s Culinary Team, Mindi and Pete Morris, can feed your appetite. They work closely with local farms and ranches to get the freshest and best ingredients, from eggs to tomatoes, and pretty much everything is made from scratch. That means it may take a few extra minutes to get your meal, because they don’t start making it until you order it. But it’s definitely worth the wait!

Maxine’s has live music every Friday night in September and October. (On Friday, Sept. 24th, Connie Gatling & David Hoffpauir will be performing from 6-9pm.) Catering is available in Maxine’s dining room only. Maxine’s is located at 905 Main Street in downtown Bastrop. They are open Sunday-Thursday 7am-2pm, Friday-Saturday 7am-9pm.
