Bike Through the Pines 3-26-11

Bastrop County has some beautiful scenery, and one of the great ways to enjoy it is atop a mountain bike, pedaling through the trees. On Saturday, March 26th, 2011 Bastrop State Park is offering a guided mountain biking tour in an area of Bastrop State Park that is normally closed to the public. On this five-mile ride, you'll get to see a historic town site and learn about the history of the park.

You can bring your own mountain bike or rent one from local outfitter, Rising Phoenix Adventures. Helmets and some experience with off-road biking are required. Bring water and snacks for this moderate ride. Reservations are required, so call Park Interpreter Katie Raney at (512) 718-0211 to make your reservation. Meet at the parking lot by the swimming pool at 9:30am and be prepared to drive to the trailhead. Cost is $4 per adult.
