Pet Parade and Patriotic Festival - 2011

Parades are a tradition in Bastrop, and the Pet & Pal Parade is an opportunity for our four-legged friends and their young owners to particpate in all the parade fun. Last year's parade was a rousing success, with all canines (and kids!) on their best behavior during the event. There were pets of all shapes and sizes! This year, prizes will be awarded in 9 different categories:

  • Best Pet Trick
  • Most Unusual Pet
  • Most Unusual Pet & Pal
  • Cutest Pet & Pal Couple
  • Most Patriotic Pet & Pal
  • Most Creative Pet & Pal
  • Best Overall Costume Pet & Pal
  • Best Family Unit
  • Best Non-Motorized Vehicle Decoration

Plus, everyone who participates will get lemonade and cookies. Yum! Registration for the parade is from 9:00-9:45am at the Bastrop County Courthouse on Saturday, July 2nd. The parade begins at 10:30am, proceeds down Main Street, and ends at the Bastrop Opera House. The parade is sponsored by Sonic and the Bastrop Downtown Business Alliance.

Bastrop's Annual Patriotic Festival will be held on Saturday, July 2nd, beginning at 6pm in Fisherman's Park. This year, there will be NO fireworks, due to the severe drought and burn ban. However, that doesn't mean there won't be plenty of fun! The Bastrop Community Chorus & Band will perform at 6pm, followed by a Patriotic concert by the Austin Symphonic Band at 8pm. There will also be vendors, food, games, and kid's activities. Come out and celebrate our great nation Bastrop-style!
