Weekend Update 4-20-12


Friday, April 20th
  • Smithville Library Bake & Book Sale beginning at 9am at the First National Bank on Main Street in Smithville. Will continue until all items are sold.
  • Arbor Day Celebration from10am-11am at Kerr Community Center, located at 1308 Walnut Street in Bastrop. Join the Texas Forest Service and 125 1st graders from Emile Elementary in celebrating Arbor Day. There will be a poster contest, learning stations, and tree planting and pruning demonstrations.
  • Bunco Fundraiser for Relay for Life at the Rockne VFW on Hwy 20. Dinner begins at 6:00pm and Bunco will begin about 7:30pm. $20 ticket includes dinner, Bunco, and lots of fun!!!
    Menu includes chicken spaghetti, salad, dessert, and water. Additional beverages will be available for purchase from the Rockne VFW. There will also be a silent auction. Never played Bunco? No problem... it's easy to learn! Men are also invited!!! Hosted by the Bunco Babes. For more information, call Cynthia Dickson at (512) 497-4271.
  • Music in the Park!!! The Matchmaker Band will be playing from 7pm-10pm at Veterans Memorial Park in Elgin. Bring blankets, chairs, or maybe even a late picnic. You can also purchase dinner at the park, for a fun and easy night out.
  • "The Clemency of Titus" performed by the Franco-American vocal Academy (FAVA) at the Elgin ISD Auditorium on Ave. C at 7:30pm.

Saturday, April 21st
  • VFW 2nd Annual Golf Tournament at Lost Pines Golf Course in Bastrop State Park, 8am-2pm. 3 Man Scramble, $100 per person. Car reward for Hole-in-One. Cash prizes for closest to pin and longest drives. Lunch included afterward at the VFW on Hwy 21 North.

  • Fireside Gallery Spring Show from10am-9pm at Fireside Gallery and Deep In The Heart Art Foundry, located at 405 S. Jackson Street in Bastrop. Tours, meet the artists, and Bronze Pour Demonstrations at 1pm, 4pm, and 8pm. Admission is FREE!!!
  • Bike through the Pines at Bastrop State Park, 9:30am-12pm. Take a guided mountain biking tour in an area of Bastrop State Park that is normally closed to the public. On this five-mile ride, see a historic town site and learn about the history of the park. Bring your own mountain bike or rent one from local outfitter Rising Phoenix Adventures. Helmets and some experience with off-road biking required. Bring water and snacks for this moderate ride. Meet at the parking lot by the swimming pool and be prepared to drive to the trailhead.   • Book Fiesta/Dia de los Ninos from11am-2pm at Elgin Public Library. Arts and crafts, music, hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, tamales, games, and more! Acompáñenos a celebrar nuestra celebración del Dia de Los Ninos en la Biblioteca Publica de Elgin! For more information, call Ms. Melinda at (512) 281-5678.
  • Bastrop Garden Speaker Series, 11am at Bastrop Gardens Nursery, located at 316 Old 71 in Cedar Creek. "Planting to Attract Wildlife, Birds and Butterflies” by Kelly Bender of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Call (512) 303-5672 for information or directions. 
  • Going for the Green Putt Off from12pm-4pm at the Pine Forest Golf Club in Tahitian Village. Entry fee is $20. Participants will have a chance to win the $50,000 grand prize and qualifers will each win a round of golf at the Hyatt Lost Pines Wolfdancer Golf Club. Eric Claxton, PGA golf pro, will be officiating the event. Proceeds benefit Smithville 2012 Project Graduation!
  • 8th Annual Cowboys and Caviar Fundraising Gala at the Bastrop Convention and Exhibition Center. Doors open at 5pm and dinner begins at 6pm. The evening consists of a gourmet dinner, complimentary wine, beer and spirits, dancing, silent and live auctions, and a raffle. Live music will be provided by Kyle Bennett. Individual tickets are $75 and sponsorships range from $250 to $5,000. All proceeds benefit the Children's Advocacy Center.

Sunday, Apr. 22nd
  • Music on the Porch at Art Connections Gallery, located at 705 F Pine Street in Bastrop from 5pm-7pm. Come hear the cool sounds of Dunn Deal with John Dunn, Tal Wigginton, Steve Smith and Herb Goldsmith playing a mix of music from blues to swing to 50's. $10 per person with 10% going to charity.
