Everyone knows that Elgin is the "Sausage Capital of Texas," but did you know that Elgin is home to a world class operatic learning facility? That's right! The Franco-American Vocal Academy (FAVA) is located right in the middle of downtown Elgin on Depot Street.
Founded by the very talented William Lewis (tenor) and Frederique Added (soprano), FAVA strives to discover, educate and inspire promising vocal talent by developing the complete singer through immersion in the various cultures, italian vocal technique, traditions of the operatic repertoire, art song interpretation, stage training, and expert knowledge of interaction patterns in the operatic milieu. FAVA is a not-for-profit, non-discriminatory organization affiliated with the Butler School of Music of the University of Texas.
Currently, FAVA is performing "La Périchole" by Jacques Offenbach, a lilting musical about two impoverished Peruvian street-singers who become involved in petty politics and political misadventures. Admission is FREE!!! Seating is limited, so reservations are suggested. Here is the schedule of performances:
