The Red Velvet Cake War

Whether you have been to the Bastrop Opera House a thousand times or have yet to see a single show, you do not want to miss the live performance of "The Red Velvet Cake War," a full-length comedy, directed by Chester Eitze, that will have you rolling in the aisle! From the Bastrop Opera House website...

"In this deliciously funny Southern-fried comedy, the three cousins have picked the hottest day of July, smack-dab in the middle of Texas tornado season to throw their family reunion. Their outrageous antics have delighted local gossips in their small Texas town.  A parade of wildly eccentric townspeople gather, and things spin hilariously out of control., including a jaw-dropping high-stakes wager on who bakes the best red velvet cake. As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you’ll wish your own family reunions were this much fun!"
The Bastrop Opera House will be presenting live performances of "The Red Velvet Cake War" every Friday and Saturday night from July 20th through August 4th at 7:30pm, and there will be a special matinee performance on Sunday, July 29th at 2:30pm. Tickets are $12 for Adults, $10 for Seniors, $7 for Students/Veterans/Active Military, and $5 for Children 14 and under. You may purchase tickets online here or at the door. The historic Bastrop Opera House is located at 711 Spring Street in downtown Bastrop.

There will also be a Red Velvet Cake Competition on Sunday, July 29th, in conjunction with the matinee performance. Anyone is eligible to enter their cake (layered or sheet, cupcake or cake pops), although all entries must be homemade by the baker. Bring your entries to the Opera House on Saturday, July 28th between 10am and 2pm. The winner of the Red Velvet Cake Competition will be announced on Sunday, July 29th, following the matinee performance of the play.  Cakes will be auctioned following the recognition of the winner. Funds from the auction will go into the Opera House Roof Restoration Fund. For official rules and instructions, visit the Bastrop Opera House website at http://bastropoperahouse.com.
