Monday, July 16th
  • Kid's Cooking Class, 10:30am-12:30pm at Kay's Cafe, located at 1289 Hwy 71 East in between Bastrop and Smithville. Ages 7-10.   • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, 12-5pm in the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce meeting room, located at 927 Main Street in downtown Bastrop. Certified by the American Heart Association. Video, discussion, and hands-on practice. Covers CPR AED and choking for adult, child, and infant. Written test and skills check-off. $50.00 per person, cash or check.   • Movie at the Pool, "Lilo & Stitch," at Elgin Municipal Pool in Morris memorial Park, located at 802 Avenue C in Elgin. Pool opens at 6:30pm, movie starts at dusk. Admission is FREE!
  • Night Hike, 8:30-9:30pm at Bastrop State Park. Join a naturalist to call for owls, watch for bats, listen for toads, and experience the park's trails after dark. Wear walking shoes and bring water, insect repellent, and a flashlight for this mile-long hike. Meet at the kiosk by the playground. Not recommended for children under the age of six. Free after park entry fees.

Saturday, July 21st
  • Bastrop State Park Volunteer Work Day, 8:00-11:30am at Bastrop State Park. Help install erosion control materials on steep, eroding hillsides. The work will be difficult, ages 14 and up. Call (512) 718-0211 for more details.
  • Go Fish! A Learn-to-Fish Event, 9am-12:30pm at Busecher State Park. Families can learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities.
