First Friday (Mar 1, 2013)

First Friday is a monthly event held in downtown Bastrop on the first Friday of every month to celebrate Bastrop's thriving art scene. This month, First Friday will be held on Mar. 1st, from 5-8pm. Many downtown businesses, restaurants, and shops will stay open late, and there will be live music, refreshments, and local artwork throughout the downtown area.

There will also be a Group Art Show and Reception at the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild, located at 1009 Main Street, from 6-8pm, with a spotlight on photography titled “Places We Have Been,” which offers a glimpse into the art of 19 different photographers.

In a slight twist on the average art show, each piece is accompanied by a story submitted by the artist who shot the photo. “We wanted the show to be different. And we wanted visitors to the show to gain an understanding of what the pictures mean to the artists, and what inspired them to photograph a particular subject,” said Karol Rice, who is chairing the group show. “We are very fortunate to have so much artistic talent in our community,” continued Rice. “This exhibit is a great opportunity to see work by people with different levels of photography experience, including several award-winning and internationally acclaimed photographers.”

Photographic artists whose work will be on view are (in alphabetical order): Michelle Adams, Craig Barras, Bob Barnett, Donna Cunningham, Gretchen Deuble, Dell Faubus, S. Michael Giblin, Dennis Litman, Kittie Lloyd-Woodard, Jane Hunt, C.J. Jordan, Carol Lyon, Kevin McDonald, Jerry Mohme, Karol Rice, Rebekah Strachn, Casey Willis, John Woodward and Jean Zurow.
