Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (Mar 8-10, 2013)


1. The Cleavage Chronicles "Everybody Loves Boobs!" - Friday and Saturday, Mar. 8th-9th, 7pm and Sunday, Mar. 10th at 3pm at Playhouse Smithville, located at 110 Main Street in downtown Smithville. This cabaret-style, multi-media, dramatic comedy explores the form and function of breasts and touches on breast health and awareness. Click here for more info.

2. Go Fish! - Saturday, Mar. 9th, 9am-12:30pm at Bastrop State Park. Families can learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities. Take away a fishing fun pack and enter the drawing for door prizes. Equipment and bait provided or bring your own. No license necessary. Adults must accompany children. 3. Pedal Thru The Pines - Saturday, Mar. 9th, beginning at 9am at Riverbend Park in Smithville. Pedal Thru The Pines is an annual on-the-road cycling event through Bastrop and Buescher State Parks. Click here for more info.

4. The Real Gun Show - Saturday, Mar. 9th, 9am-5pm and Sunday, Mar. 10th, 10am-5pm at the Bastrop Convention Center, located at 1408 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. $8/adult or $13 per weekend pass. Children 12 and under are FREE. Click here for more info.

5. Sherwood Forest Faire - Saturday & Sunday, Mar. 9th & 10th, 10am-7pm at the Sherwood Forest Faire festival grounds, located at 1883 Old Hwy 20 in McDade. Visit Sherwood Forest Faire for a medieval-themed show with over 100 musical, comedic and dramatic performances per day, including a full-contact heavy armor joust, falconry show, feasts, and wine tastings - all in period costume and character.

5. Crawfish Boil - Saturday, Mar. 9th, 5pm 'til they run out, at Leon's Country Store, located at 4033 FM 535 in Rockne. Tillman's Specialty Meats will be selling boiled crawfish with corn and potatoes at $6/pound or 5 pounds for $25. It's a cajun feast! 

6. Cotton Bowl Speedway - Saturday, Mar. 2nd, 5-11pm at Cotton Bowl Speedway, located at Hwy 290 and CR 202 in Paige. General admission $12, seniors $10, students, military, and children 6 & under are FREE. Races start at 7pm.

7. Skate and a Movie - Saturday, Mar. 9th, 5:30pm in Fisherman's Park. The evening begins with a skateboard demonstration at 5:30pm, games & activities at 6pm, and an outdoor showing of the movie "The Pirates! Band of Misfits!" at dusk. Admission is FREE! Click here for more info.

8. Stargazing at the Lake - Saturday, Mar. 9th, 7-9pm at Buescher State Park in Smithville. See stories unfold and planets rise. There will be a telescope trained on some of the wonders of space, and if you're lucky, you'll even glimpse Comet PanSTARRS. 9. Fun with Frogs and Toads - Saturday, Mar. 9th, 11am at Bastrop State Park. Explore the world of awesome amphibians. Find out what life is like for frogs and toads in Bastrop State Park and make your own toad house to take home. Meet at the picnic area by the playground. Free after park entry fees. 10. Texas Polka Festival - Fritz Hodde & The Fabulous Six, 1-6m at the Elgin SPJST, located at 702 Hwy 95 North in Elgin. $10 cover, 10 and under free with paid adult. Kids welcome, non-smoking facility.
