Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (June 7-9, 2013)


1. Heart of Texas Green Expo - June 7th-9th at the Bastrop Convention Center, located at 1408 Chestnut in Bastrop. Exhibitors, speakers, demonstrations, Trailblazer interactive science/engineering museum, BHS Robotics team and their award winning robot, puppet show and flea circus, live music, Ballet Folklorico, and more. 2. First Friday Art Walk & Pickin' on the Porch - Friday, June 7th, 5-9pm in downtown Bastrop. Live music, food & drinks, shopping, and of course, ART! Pickin' on the Porch is held at Larryland Music, located in the Crossing at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Bring your instrument (acoustic guitar, banjo, hand drum, stand up bass, harmonica, etc.) and play along! Click here for more info.

4. Pine Street Market Days -  Saturday, June 8th, 9am-5pm on Pine Street in downtown Bastrop. Antiques, art, pottery, handcrafted items, jewelry, candles, plants, concessions, and more. Click here for more info.

5. Go Fish! Learn to Fish Event - Saturday, June 8th, 9am-12:30pm at Bastrop State Park. Families can learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities. Equipment and bait provided or bring your own, no license necessary. FREE after park entry fees. For more info, click here or here.

6. Walk on the Wild Side - Saturday, June 8th, 10am-12pm at McKinney Roughs Nature Park, located at 1884 Hwy 71 W in Cedar Creek. Enjoy an interpretive hike with a park naturalist and discover how the river influences our ecosystem. Ages 8 and up. $4/adult, children 12 and under are FREE.

7. Bastrop Public Library Summer Reading Program Opening Day - Saturday, June 8th, 10am-12pm at the Pavillion in Fisherman's Park, located at 1200 Willow Street in Bastrop. Games and prizes, snacks, Ms. Poppy the Clown, and more. Click here for more info about the BPL Summer Reading Program.

8. Cotton Bowl Speedway - Saturday, June 8th, 5-11pm at Cotton Bowl Speedway, located at Hwy 290 and CR 202 in Paige. 9. Movies in the Park, "The Lorax" - Saturday, June 8th, 7pm at Bob Bryant Park, located at 600 Charles Blvd. in Bastrop. Fun family activities, earth friendly crafts, Ms. Poppy the Clown, concessions, and more. Admission is FREE! Click here for more info.

10. "Shakespeare Rocks!" and "Anna and August" - Sunday, June 9th, 2pm at the Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in downtown Bastrop.
