First Day Hike - 2014

If one of your New Year's resolutions is to be more active, exercise more, or spend more time in nature, then you should kick off 2014 with a First Day Hike in Bastrop State Park or Buescher State Park!

The First Day Hike is an easy 1-mile hike led by a Park Ranger. They'll help you spot native wildlife and plants, provide interesting facts, and point out how things have changes since the 2011 wildfires. Participants may want to bring hiking stick, sturdy shoes, and drinking water.
  • Bastrop State Park - Wednesday, Jan. 1st, 1-2pm. Meet at the Deer Run area playground. Click here for more info.
  • Buescher State Park - Wednesday, Jan. 1st, 3-4:30pm. Meet at the new parking lot near the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center along Park Road 1C. (See map below.) Click here for more info.

The First Day Hike is free after park admission fees, which are only $2/adult (age 13 and up) for a day use pass. This would also be a great time to consider purchasing an annual Texas State Parks Pass! Texas State Park Passes give you and your guests unlimited admission to over 90 Texas State Parks, discounts on camping, park store merchandise, equipment rentals, and more. All that for only $70/year!

Also, if you go to Buescher State Park, don't forget to ask about their FREE Junior Ranger Explorer Packs!
