There are a lot of really fun events coming up this next month in Bastrop County! Here's your sneak peek at the February 2015 calendar of events. Click on the links for more information about each event.

Feb. 3rd - Researching Your Family, 6-9pm at the Bastrop Public Library, located at 1100 Church Street in Bastrop. A local genealogist will be available to help you find out the history of your family genealogy. FREE!

Feb. 3rd - Pub Trivia, 7-9pm at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard, located in the Crossing at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. FREE!

Feb. 4th - Kids Hula Fit, 10:00-10:50am at the Kerr Community Center, located at 1308 Walnut Street in Bastrop. Ages 3-8. FREE for YMCA members; $5/child for non-members.

Feb. 4th - Affordable Care Act Information Session, 2-4pm at the Elgin Public Library, located at 404 N. Main Street in Elgin. Presented by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). FREE!

Feb. 4th - Arts & Crafts: Heart Art, 4:30pm at Elgin Public Library, located at 404 N. Main Street in Elgin. FREE!

Feb. 5th - Farm Street Opry, 7pm at the Bastrop Convention & Exhibition Center, located at 1408 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Admission is $5/person; children 10 and under are FREE. Doors open at 5:30pm.

Feb. 6th - Gumbo Friday, 11:30am-1:30pm at Lost Pines Toyota, located at 806 Hwy 71 W in Bastrop. Open to the public. FREE!

Feb. 6th - 1st Friday Fish Fry, 3-8pm at Ascension Catholic Church, located at 802 Pine Street in Bastrop. Dine-in (all you can eat) or to-go plates. $8/plate for adults; $6/plate for children and seniors. Proceeds benefit Ascension youth attending the 2016 World Youth Day in Poland.

Feb. 6th - First Friday Art Walk, 5:30-8:30pm in downtown Bastrop. Art, food, shopping, live music, and more. FREE!

Feb. 6th - HOT HULA Fitness® and HOT FUSION®, 6-8pm at Body Toners Fitness, located at 1105 Main Street in Bastrop. Back-to-back classes. $5/class in advance or $8/class at the door. Limited to 40 attendees.

Feb. 6th - Patent Pending Improv, 7:00-8:15pm at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts (PAC) Black Box Theatre, located at 1401 Cedar Street in Bastrop. Performed by Bastrop High School theatre students. $2/person or $3/couple.

Feb. 6th - Game Night & Open Mic, 7-10pm at The Owl Wine Bar and Home Goods Store, located at 106 N. Main Street in Elgin. FREE!

Feb. 6th-9th - RETREET V: plant trees, ride bicycles, listen to live music, eat local food, and enjoy Texas history. Friday at 6pm, meet for a night out on the town in Austin. On Saturday, meet at Dove Recreation Center in Austin by 10:30am to bike to Bastrop, concluding with a party at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard at 6pm. On Sunday, meet at the Pecan Street Inn at 9:30am to plant hundreds of trees at home sites in the Circle D-KC and Tahitian Village areas. On Monday, ride your bikes through Bastrop and Buescher State Parks.

Feb. 7th - Sensory Screening of "Paddington" 10am at Schulman Theatres Lost Pines 8, located at 1600 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Tickets are $3.50 each; adult attendant required and admitted for FREE. Sensory friendly presentations offer a special opportunity to accommodate families who are affected by a wide range of complex neurodevelopmental disorders. The auditorium lighting is raised, the sound is adjusted to a lower volume, and guests are encouraged to walk around and talk or sing during the show.

Feb. 7th - YMCA Polar Plunge, 1-2pm at the Bastrop State Park pool. $10/person donation to participate. All money raised will go towards supporting the local community through financial assistance and program subsidies.

Feb. 7th - Fire! Fire! 3:30-4:30pm at Bastrop State Park. Discuss the role of fire in forests, its uses and dangers, and the restoration efforts underway in Bastrop on this short hike through some of the area that burned during the 2011 wildfire. Free after park entry fees.

Feb. 7th - Fish Fry & Fun Night, 6-10pm at the Smithville Recreation Center, located at 106 Royston in Smithville. Doors open at 6pm, and the meal starts at 6:30pm. Tickets are $100 each and include one entry into the cash drawing and a fried fish meal and drinks for two people. Co-sponsored by the Smithville Noon Lions Club and the Volunteer Fire Department.

Feb. 7th - Million Tree ShinDIG, 6-11pm at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard. Celebrate the MILLIONTH tree planted to restore the Lost Pines in the wake of the devastating 2011 Bastrop fires. Enjoy live music by Raina Rose, The Lost Pines, Aunt Ruby's Sweet Jazz Babies, and Trái BĘ” and chainsaw carving by Griffon Ramsey, this year's people's choice winner of the International Chainsaw Carving Championship! $10/person suggested donation. Presented by TreeFolks and RETREET. Neighbor's will donate 15% of all food sales to these organizations in support of further tree planting in Bastrop.

Feb. 7th - Owl Prowl, 7-8pm at Buescher State Park. Learn about the world of owls. Free after park entry fees.

Feb. 10th - Atlas Pain Institute Ribbon Cutting & Open House, 5-7pm at 1001 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Celebrate the new division of Atlas Pain InstituteHand in Hand Nutritional Healing. Plus, enjoy complimentary snacks and wine from Baxter's on Main. FREE!

Feb. 14th - Winter Wildlife Survival Walk, 10-11am at Buescher State Park. Explore the world of forest animals in winter on a one-mile guided hike. Free after park entry fee.

Feb. 14th - Story Time Saturday, 10:30am at Chick-fil-A, located at 721 Hwy 71 W in Bastrop. Join the Chick-fil-A cow and friends from the Bastrop Public Library for story time and a free kids icedream. FREE!

Feb. 14th - The Great Food Race, 11:00-11:40am (ages 3-6), 12-1pm (ages 7-10), 1:30-2:30pm (ages 11-15) at the Bastrop Church of Christ, located at 287 FM 20 in Bastrop. $7/child for YMCA members; $15/child for non-members. Nutrition class with hands-on meal preparation.

Feb. 14th - From Boys to Men, 2-3pm at Buescher State Park. Explore the lives of boys working in the Civilian Conservation Corps over 80 years ago.  On a short hike, discover several structures they built and some of the tools they used while learning about their struggle to survive into manhood during the Great Depression. Free after park entry fee.

Feb. 14th - Night Hike, 7-8pm at Bastrop State Park. Join a naturalist to call for owls, watch for bats, listen for toads, and experience the trails after dark on this 1-mile hike. Free after park entry fees.

Feb. 16th - "The Teacher from the Black Lagoon & Other Stories," 7:00-8:15pm at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts (PAC), located at 1401 Cedar Street in Bastrop. $5/person; ages 4 and under FREE. Purchase tickets online here. Presented by NYC Theatre Works USA.

Feb. 17th - Eclectic Guitar Concert, 7-9pm at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for Performing Arts, located at 1401 Cedar Street in Bastrop. Featuring guitar legends Eric Johnson and Mike Stern. Ticket prices: $40 Preferred Seating, $25 General Admission, $125 VIP Access (reserved VIP seating and backstage reception with artists). Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bastrop County.

Feb. 19th - "All Dogs Go to Heaven 2," 6pm at Elgin Public Library, located at 404 N. Main Street in Elgin. Hot dogs will be available or bring your own dinner and snacks. FREE!

Feb. 21st - Run for the Bluebonnets, 8:30am at Fisherman's Park in Bastrop. 1K and 5K runs for all ages. $10 registration fee for 1K (kids age 12 and under only), $20 registration fee for 5K (all ages). Registration fees increase on Feb. 7th. After party with live music at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard. Register online here. Benefits the Bluebonnet Elementary PTA.

Feb. 21st - City Wide Garage Sale, 10am-5pm at the Bastrop Convention Center, located at 1408 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Adults $5 each; children 12 and younger are free.

Feb. 21st - Couponers Stockpile Trade & Sale, 10am at Bob Bryant Park in Bastrop. Bring items you have purchased with coupons and sell or trade them. Or come to purchase sale items such as household cleaning products, detergents, food, and more. FREE!

Feb. 21st - YMCA Parent's Night Out, 5:30-9:30pm at the Bastrop Church of Christ, located at 287 FM 20 in Bastrop. $10/child for Bastrop YMCA members; $20/child for non-members. Ages 4-12. Pre-registration is required.

Feb. 21st - Sounds of the Night, 7-8pm at Buescher State Park. Learn about the sometimes spooky sounds of the forest at night and the special tools and adaptations that make nocturnal animals able to survive and thrive in the darkness. Free after park entry fee.

Feb. 28th - Empty Bowl Project, 11am-1pm at the Bastrop High School Cafeteria, located at in Bastrop. Tickets are $20/person; children 12 and under are FREE. Proceeds benefit the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry.

Feb. 28th - "I Do! I Do!," 7:30pm at the Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in Bastrop. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for children, students, and military.

Feb. 28th - Skins, Skulls, and Scat, 7-8pm at Bastrop State Park. Touch, feel, and see skulls, skins, and scat of the various wildlife that inhabits Bastrop State Park. Test your knowledge and learn how to identify these different animals. Free after park entry fee.

Feb. 28th - Gourmet Grilled Cheese Party, 7pm at EON Vintage, located at 705-C Pine Street in Bastrop. Potluck style, so bring your favorite cheesy dish to share. FREE!
