Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (May 15-17, 2015)

1. Downtown Bastrop Girls Night Out – May 15th until 8pm in downtown Bastrop. Shopping, dining, and socializing! Participating shops, marked with balloons, will be open until 8pm and will host an in-store drawing for a gift certificate or other prizes.

2. Grand Opening Party for the Mansion at Colovista – May 15th, 5:30-8:00pm at ColoVista Golf Club, 100 Country Club Drive, Bastrop, TX. Enjoy a steak dinner, live music by Princeton Runaway and cash bar at one of the premier destinations in Bastrop. Pre-sale tickets $35 and $40 at the door. 3. "Love, Loss & What I Wore" – May 15th-17th, 7:30pm on May 15th and 16th and 2:30pm on May 17th at Bastrop Opera House, 711 Spring Street, Bastrop, TX. Love, Loss, and What I Wore is a play written by Nora and Delia Ephron based on the 1995 book of the same name by Ilene Beckerman. It is organized as a series of monologues and uses a rotating cast of five principal women. The subject matter of the monologues includes women's relationships and wardrobes and at times the interaction of the two, using the female wardrobe as a time capsule of a woman's life. Adult tickets $12. Seniors $10. Military $8.

4. Beto y Los Fairlaines Concert – May 15th, 8-10pm at Veteran’s Park, 109 Depot Street, Elgin, TX. Dance under the stars as friends of Elgin Parks kicks off their spring concert series with Beto y los Fairlaines. Free!

5. Relay for Life Bastrop/Smithville – May 15th-16th, 8pm-6am at Bastrop High School, 1614 Chambers Street, Bastrop, TX. Join the fight against cancer and support our local teams at this year Relay For Life event. There will be friends, fun, a raffle and more. Survivor Dinner at 6pm. Opening ceremony is at 8pm with Luminaria Ceremony at 9pm.

6. Go Fish! Learn to Fish Event – May 16th, 9am-3pm at Buescher State Park, Park Road 1-C, Smithville, TX. Families can learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities. Take away a fishing fun pack and enter the drawing for door prizes. Equipment and bait provided or bring your own. No license necessary. Adults must accompany children. Free after park entry fees.

7. Paws on the Patio Fundraiser – May 16th, 10am-2pm at Pockets Grille, 205 Fawcett Street, Smithville, TX. Every animal deserves a second chance. Help the shelter animals of Bastrop County get theirs.

8. Smithville Trades Day – May 16th, 10am-3pm on Main Street in Smithville.  Enjoy local vendors, music, antiques, clothing, art, home decor, arts/crafts, good ol' junk and loads of fun!

9. TAFF Invitation Skate Contest – May 16th, 11am-3pm at Smithville Recreation Center Skate Park, 106 Royston, Smithville, TX. Smithville PARD is presenting a TAAF invitational Skate Contest on Saturday, May 16. Register early for the event at the Smithville Recreation Center. Entry is $10 per person for game of skate and $10 per person for best trick competition. Or enter both events for $15. Skate competition starts at 2 p.m. with open skate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  For more information call 512-237-3282 ext. 2320.  *Postponed until June 13th due to weather!!!

10. Red Rock Steakhouse and Saloon's Grand Opening Celebration – May 16th, 2pm-midnight at Red Rock Steakhouse and Saloon, 101 S. Lentz Street, Red Rock, TX. Live music with the Logan Tucker Band, washers tournament, kids activities, and more.

11. Smithville Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser – May 17th, 11am-3pm at Riverbend Park, FM 153, Smithville, TX. Support the local volunteer fire department while enjoying food, fun and friends! Fried chicken, sausage and sides plates are $8. Fantastic raffle featuring a home theater system.

12. Sacred Heart Catholic Church Spring Festival – May 17th, 11am-5pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne, TX. Lunch, kids' games, Bingo, horseshoes and washers tournaments, refreshments, and more.
