Top 4 Spots for Wine Lovers in Bastrop County

Today, Feb. 18th, 2016, is National Drink Wine Day! In honor of this special day, we'd like to showcase a couple of Bastrop County's best places to buy (and drink) wine, or as some of my friends call it "the nectar of the gods."

1. Cripple Creek Wine and Gifts

928A Main Street, Bastrop, TX - Cripple Creek has been a Bastrop favorite for ages! This quaint shop on Main Street recently got not only new owners (Sean & Abbie Neighbours), but a whole new look and feel. They carry an array of the best wines in Texas including wines from Messina Hof, Fiesta Winery, and Pedernales Cellars, as well as gourmet coffee,  special seasonings, dip mixes, candles, and gifts. Plus, most of their products are sourced right here in the Lone Star state!

2. Colorado River Winery

707 Chestnut Street, Bastrop, TX - Owned by Brad and Sylvia Cook, the Colorado River Winery produces and sells outstanding wines. They offer a tasting room in the Tuscan style where you can relax, taste, sip, swirl, and purchase wines by Colorado River Winery or shop for unique wine-related items. Stop in for a sample, or join their wine club. Just FYI, my absolute favorite wine of all-time is their Riverbank Sweet Blush!

3. Front Room Wine Bar

116 Main Street, Smithville, TX - At the Front Room Wine Bar, you can lounge next to the fire place in a comfortable leather chair and enjoy a nice glass of wine. Styled in the fashion of pubs from owner Victoria Allen’s native Scotland, the Front Room is attempting to revive the lost art of conversation. Besides wine by the glass or bottle, they also offer a great selection of craft beers, spirits, hors d'oeuvres, and dessert. This is one of the classiest places you'll find in Bastrop County!

4. The Owl Wine Bar & Home Goods Store

106 N. Main Street, Elgin, TX - Co-owners Molly Alexander and Gary Luedecke have created something special in the middle of downtown Elgin. The Owl, Elgin's first home goods store and wine bar, not only offers unique vintage home goods and furniture, but is also a popular local option for happy hour and sampling boutique wines. They host open mic nights and live music as well as fun classes on various crafts from time to time.

No one is turned away at the Bastrop YMCA... donate today!
