Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (Mar 11-13, 2016)


1. Friday Nite Live - Mar. 11th, 7:00-10:30pm at Mina Elementary School, located at 1203 Hill Street in Bastrop. Friday Nite Live is a kid's night out with music, a bounce house, and fun games & activities. This week is a St. Patrick's Day theme with a photo booth, kickball, rainbow relay, a gold hunt, and more! Admission is $12/person for ALL kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade, not just BISD. It's fun, safe, and supervised! No RSVP required.

2. Go Fish! - Mar. 12th, 9am-12pm at Buescher State Park. Families can learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities. Take away a fishing fun pack and enter the drawing for door prizes. Equipment and bait provided or bring your own. No license necessary. Ages 5 and up. Free after park entry fees.

3. Spring Break Market Days - Mar. 12th-13th, 9am-6pm at Dixie's Parlour & Primitives, located at 1289 Hwy 71 between Bastrop and Smithville. Lots of vendors - antiques, jewelry, home d├ęcor, furniture, candles, plants, and more!

4. Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike - Mar. 12th, 10-11am at Bastrop State Park. Join a Master Naturalist for a 1-mile guided hike. Admission is free after park entry fees. There is also a Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike at Buescher State Park on Mar. 12th from 10-11am. More info here.

5. Sherwood Forest Faire - Mar. 12th-13th, 10am until dusk at 1883 Old Hwy 20 in McDade. Enjoy a medieval-themed show with over 100 musical, comedic, and dramatic performances per day, including a full-contact heavy armor joust, falconry show, feasts, and wine tastings - all in period costume and character! Purchase tickets online here, or purchase discounted tickets at Walgreens.

6. Kid's Decorating Class - Mar. 12th, 2-3pm at Johnson's Bakery, located at 715 Old Austin Hwy, Ste. 300 in Bastrop. Kids will decorate Shamrock Shacks in honor of St. Patrick's Day. $15/child. Call (512) 412-6221 to register.

7. A Stroll Through History - Mar. 12th, 2-3pm at Buescher State Park. Enjoy an easy walking tour to explore the amazing hand-crafted buildings and structures that the Civilian Conservation Corps men built in the depths of the Great Depression. Free after park entry fees.

8. Glass Etching - Mar. 12th, 7-9pm at Back Porch Ceramics, located in the Crossing at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Create an etched baking/serving dish with your monogram/name on it. Taught by Lindsay Varn with the Knotted Antler. $40/person includes all supplies; register online here.

9. Yoga! In the Park! - Mar. 13th, 8:00-9:15am at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard (either on the outdoor stage or on the grassy area by the riverbank), located in the Crossing at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Suggested donation of $10-$20.

10. "Camberwell House" - Mar. 13th, 7pm at the Bastrop Opera House, located at in Bastrop. "Camberwell House" is a one-woman short play addressing loneliness and aging and revealing possible dementia, isolation, and reality issues laced with gentle humor. Starring Lisa Holcomb. Donation only at the door.
