Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (Mar 4-6, 2016)


1. Bastrop Area Livestock Show - Mar. 4th-5th at the Ken Estepp Barn, located behind the American Legion at 3003 Loop 150 in Bastrop. Plus, enjoy the 5th Annual Antique Farm Show on Saturday, Mar. 5th from 9am-4pm!

2. First Friday Art Walk - Mar. 4th, 5:30-8:30pm in downtown Bastrop. This month is Texas-themed in honor of Texas Independence Day! Enjoy art, food, live music, and more. Plus, hop on over to Pickin' on the Porch with LarryLand Music in the Crossing, located at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Admission is FREE!

3. Warrior Dash - Mar. 5th, 8:30am-1pm at Rusty's Walnut Creek Ranch, located at 394 Pleasant Chapel Road in Cedar Creek. The Warrior Dash is a 5K obstacle race for beginners and elite athletes alike. Online registration is closed, but you can still register on-site on race day.

4. SuperHero Run to Cure Diabetes - Mar. 5th, beginning at 9am at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 109 Depot Street in Elgin. 5K run, face painting, live music, and more! Proceeds benefit The Diabetes Research Institute.

5. Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike - Mar. 5th, 10-11am at Bastrop State Park. Join a Master Naturalist for a 1-mile guided hike. Admission is free after park entry fees. There is also a Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike at Buescher State Park on Mar. 5th from 10-11am; more info here.

6. Sherwood Forest Faire - Mar. 5th-6th, 10am until dusk at 1883 Old Hwy 20 in McDade. Enjoy a medieval-themed show with over 100 musical, comedic, and dramatic performances per day, including a full-contact heavy armor joust, falconry show, feasts, and wine tastings - all in period costume and character! Purchase tickets online here, or purchase discounted tickets at Walgreens.

7. "Zootopia" Petting Zoo - Mar. 5th, 1-4pm at Schulman Theatres Lost Pines 8, located at 1600 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Bunnies, chickens, ducks, baby chicks, sheep, goats, and more! Admission to the petting zoo is FREE!

8. Kid's Cookie Decorating Class - Mar. 5th, 2-3pm at Johnson's Bakery, located at 715 Old Austin Hwy, Ste. 300 in Bastrop. Kids will decorate Dr. Seuss themed cupcakes in honor of Dr. Seuss Day. $15/child. Call (512) 412-6221 to register.

9. Free Community Movie Night - Mar. 5th, beginning at 6:15pm in Elgin Memorial Park, located at 1127 N. Main Street in Elgin. Bring a blanket or chairs and watch "The Good Dinosaur" under the stars! Admission is FREE! Concessions will be available with proceeds benefitting the Elgin "Drive a Senior" program.

10. Celebrating New Life Banquet - Mar. 5th, beginning at 5:30pm at the Bastrop Convention & Exhibition Center, located at 1408 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Tickets are $35/person and include dinner and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center.

11. Intro to Canoeing - Mar. 6th, 9am-12pm at Lake Bastrop at South Shore Park. $30/person. Learn to canoe, and enjoy a serene and refreshing morning on Lake Bastrop at South Shore Park. Pre-registration with McKinney Roughs Nature Park is required.
