Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (Apr 1-3, 2016)


1. Book & Plant Sale - Apr. 1st, 11am-6pm & Apr. 2nd 10am-4pm at the Bastrop Public Library, located at 1100 Church Street in Bastrop. Hosted by the Friends of the Bastrop Public Library and the Lost Pines Garden Club. Admission is FREE!

2. First Friday Art Walk - Apr. 1st, 5:30-8:30pm in downtown Bastrop. Enjoy art, food, live music, and more. Plus, stroll on over to Pickin' on the Porch with LarryLand Music in the Crossing, located at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Admission is FREE!

3. Story Telling Event - Apr. 1st, 6:00-7:30pm at the Museum & Vistor's Center of the Bastrop County Historical Society, located at 904 Main Street in Bastrop. Come listen to Chester Eitze, Executive Director of the Bastrop Opera House, wow audiences with his remarkable brand of story telling. Admission is FREE!

4. Friday Nite Live - Apr. 1st, 7:00-10:30pm at Mina Elementary School, located at 1203 Hill Street in Bastrop. Friday Nite Live is a kid's night out with music, a bounce house, and fun games & activities. Admission is $12/person for ALL kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade, not just BISD. It's fun, safe, and supervised! No RSVP required.

5. "Making Love in Public" - Apr. 1st & 2nd at 7:30pm and Apr. 3rd at 2:00pm at Playhouse Smithville, located at 110 Main Street in Smithville. A romantic comedy with five couples in two acts, and all ten characters are played by Kayla Jo Williams and Matt Torrez! Tickets are $10/person and can be purchased at the door or online here.

6. Spring Citywide Garage Sale - Apr. 2nd, 8am-3pm at various locations throughout Smithville. Maps can be found at the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Center, located next to the gazebo on First and Main Street. Admission is FREE! (But bring lots of cash for the garage sales!)

7. Local Lore - Apr. 2nd beginning at 10am at the Depot Museum, located at 14 Depot Street in Elgin. Games from the past, scavenger hunt, walking tours, live music, River Valley Farmer's Market (9am-1pm), Lone Star Car Club Cruise-In, and more! Admission is FREE!

8. Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike - Mar. 26th, 10-11am at Bastrop State Park. Join a Master Naturalist for a 1-mile guided hike. Admission is free after park entry fees. *There is also a Jr. Ranger Academy at Bastrop State Park on Apr. 1st from 3:30-4:30pm, Basics of Oudoor Photography class at Bastrop State Park on Apr. 2nd from 9am-6pm, Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike at Buescher State Park on Mar. 26th from 10-11am, Picnic in the Park at Bastrop State Park on Apr. 2nd from 12-1pm, and Nature Journaling 101 at Buescher State Park on Apr. 2nd from 2:30-3:30pm.

9. YMCA Healthy Kids Day - Apr. 2nd, 11am-2pm at Fisherman's Park in Bastrop. Enjoy games & prizes, food, and visits from the Bastrop County Sheriff's office, Bastrop Police Department, Mission U Too, Academy Sports, Boys and Girls Club, BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse), and the Children's Advocacy Center. Admission is FREE!

10. Artful Afternoon Gala Garden Party - Apr. 3rd, 3:00-6:30pm at 1702 Pecan Street in Bastrop. Hosted by the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild. For admission, call Jeannette Condray at (512) 576-1100.

PLUS, this is the last weekend of the season to visit Sherwood Forest Faire! Apr. 2nd-3rd, 10am until dusk at 1883 Old Hwy 20 in McDade. Enjoy a medieval-themed show with over 100 musical, comedic, and dramatic performances per day, including a full-contact heavy armor joust, falconry show, feasts, and wine tastings - all in period costume and character!
