Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (Apr 29th-May 1, 2016)

1. Ladies Night - Apr. 29th, 5:00-7:30pm at Living Room Books & Gifts, located at 301 Hwy 71 W, Ste. 100 in Bastrop. Meet local authors Angela Castillo, Jamie Foley, Golden Keyes Parsons, and Evelyn L. Richesin, who will all be visiting with fans and signing books. Plus, food, a gift basket raffle, gift card giveaways to Cherry Blossoms Spa, Coffee Dog, Paw Paw's Catfish House, and Sugar Shack, organic skincare, jewelry, and more! Admission is FREE!

2. Friday Nite Live - Apr. 15th, 7:00-10:30pm at Mina Elementary School, located at 1203 Hill Street in Bastrop. Friday Nite Live is a kid's night out with music, a bounce house, and fun games & activities. Admission is $12/person for ALL kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade, not just BISD. It's fun, safe, and supervised! No RSVP required.

3. Wish-Maker Venture in Paradise - Apr. 29th-30th at the ColoVista Golf Club in Bastrop. Caribbean Social on Apr. 29th, 7-11pm with tropical appetizers, island music by Cecil Francis, a silent auction, and more! $25/person. Golf tournament Apr. 30th, 8am-12pm. $75/person. Proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas.

4. Bastrop's Festival Weekend:
  • Yesterfest Classic Country & Gospel Show - Apr. 29th, 7:30pm at the Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in Bastrop. Live music by Dale Burke, Terry Lyne Moore, and the McMillans. $10/person at the door.
  • Bastrop Family Rodeo Club UPRA Rodeo - Apr. 29th-30th at the Mayfest Hill Park Arena, located at 25 American Legion Drive, off Loop 150 in Bastrop. Apr. 29th is Nurse's Appreciation, and Apr. 30th is Veteran's Appreciation. Gates open at 6:30pm both nights. $10/adult, $5/child ages 5-12.
  • Yesterfest & Naturefest - Apr. 30th, 9am-5pm in Bastrop's Fisherman's Park. Historical reenactments & demonstrations, artisans, nature crafts, outdoor games & activities, food, live music, and more! Admission is FREE!
  • "A Trial That Never Was: The Shooting of Richard Armstrong Shirley" - May 1st, 2pm at the Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in Bastrop. Historical reenactment of a murder trial (that never happened) in Elgin in 1883, presented by the Bastrop County Bar Association. $10/person.
  • "The North Star" - May 1st, 5pm at the Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in Bastrop. "The North Star" tells the story of Benjamin "Big Ben" Jones and Moses Hopkins, two slaves who escaped from a Virginia plantation and made their way to freedom in Buckingham, Pennsylvania in 1849. Also, enjoy a live musical performance by composer and American Idol Top 10 finalist, Jermaine Jones, as well as a Q&A with producer Leilani Goode.

5. "Robin Hood" - Apr. 29th & 30th at 7:30pm and May 1st at 2:00pm at Playhouse Smithville, located at 110 Main Street in Smithville. Young Robin Hood takes on the evil Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham to save King Richard. Singing, dancing, sword play, archery, and more! Tickets are $10/person and can be purchased at the door or online here.

6. Elgin Art Studio Tour - Apr. 30th, 10am-5pm in downtown Elgin. Studio tours, artist demostrations, live music, and more! Maps and more info here. Admission is FREE!

7. Discover the Lost Pines Hike - Apr. 30th, 10-11am in Bastrop State Park. Join a Master Naturalist on a 1-mile guided hike. Admission is free after park entry fees. *There is also a Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike at Buescher State Park on Apr. 30th from 10-11am.

8. Customer Appreciation BBQ - Apr. 30th, 2pm at Cherry Blossoms Spa, located at 1011 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Admission is FREE!

9. Art & Wine Fest - Apr. 30th, 4-7pm at The Colony Clubhouse, located at 368 Stephen F. Austin in Bastrop/Cedar Creek. Suggested donation of $20/person. Proceeds benefit M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Lost Pines Art Center.

10. Salsa Dance Night - Apr. 23rd, 8pm-1am at La Hacienda, located at 1800 Walnut Street in Bastrop. Lessons are from 8:00-9:30pm and dancing is from 9:30pm-1:00am. $5/person cover, includes lessons.
