Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (May 13-15, 2016)


1. Mayfest Hill Disaster Relief CPRA Rodeo - May 12th-14th at Mayfest Hill Park Arena, located at 25 American Legion Drive, off Loop 150 in Bastrop. Carnival all weekend! Rodeo begins at 7:30pm on Friday & Saturday. Cornhole Tournament on Saturday at 1pm, $20/team. Live music with Jeff Haney, Briana Adams, and the James Soto Band on Saturday at 9pm. Proceeds benefit Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team.

2. Almost There Fair - May 13th, 4-7pm at Cedar Creek Elementary School, located at 5582 FM 535 in Cedar Creek. Enjoy face painting, bounce houses, games, cake walk, concessions, choir concerts, art exhibits, raffle, silent auction, and more! Proceeds benefit Cedar Creek Elementary PTA.

3. "Nunsense" - May 13th & 14th, 7:30pm and May 15th, 2:30pm at Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in Bastrop. "Nunsense" is a comedic musical that follows the crazy antics of five nuns after most of the sisters are poisoned and die. The sisters find themselves strapped for cash, and they still have four dead nuns to bury, whose bodies are being stored in the kitchen freezer! The nuns decide to put on a musical benefit performance in order to raise the rest of the money before the health department discovers their secret. Tickets are $8-$15/person and can be purchased online here.

4. "Sirens N Aquarius" - May 13th & 14th, 7:30pm at Playhouse Smithville, located at 110 Main Street in Smithville. "Sirens N Aquarius" is a rock and roll celebration that takes you down the path of the songs of the '60s with poetry, scenes, and peaceful thoughts of a woman on the moon. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased online here.

5. Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike - May 14th, 10-11am in Bastrop State Park. Join a Master Naturalist on a 1-mile guided hike. Free after park entry fees. *More events at Buescher State Park: Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike, May 14th, 10-11am and Spider Hunt, May 14th, 8-9pm.

6. Smithville Fly-In - May 14th, 10am-2pm at 84R Smithville Municipal Airport, located at 789 Hwy 95 S in Smithville. FREE Young Eagles Ground School Training (ages 8-17) at 10:30am, candy drop at 11:15am, airplane beauty contest, games & prizes, lunch, flying simulations, and more! Plus, helicopter rides for $20/person! Admission is FREE!

7. Turquoise Salon & Spa 3rd Anniversary Party - May 14th, 5pm at 141 Tahitian Drive in Bastrop. Inflatable waterslide, live music, free food & drinks, and a raffle benefitting the Children's Advocacy Center. Admission is FREE!

8. Glow Run 5K - May 14th, 8:30pm at the Gazebo on Main Street in Smithville. Check-in begins at 7pm. Register in advance or at the race; $30/person. This is a night run, so wear glow bracelets, necklaces, and anything that lights up. DJ & dance after the race. Hosted by the Smithville Noon Lions Club.

9.  SVFD Fundraiser - May 15th, 11am at Riverbend Park in Smithville. Proceeds benefit the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department. Lunch begins at 11am; $8/plate includes fried chicken, sausage, and sides. Live auction at 1pm.

10. Elgin Farm Tour - May 15th, 1-5pm, meet at Elgin Local Goods, located at 201 N. Main Street in Elgin. Guided tour to Bernhardt's Fruit & Veggie Farm and Green Gate Farm. Transportation provided. Samples included. $15/person.

11. Fitness in the Park - May 15th, 1:30-3:30pm in Fisherman's Park, located at 1200 Willow Street in Bastrop. FREE fitness classes and massages, brunch from Baxters on Main, prize drawing for free workout gear, and more! Plus, the first 50 people to RSVP get FREE gift bags!
