Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (May 27-29, 2016)

1. "Nunsense" - May 27th & 28th, 7:30pm and May 29th, 2:30pm at Bastrop Opera House, located at 711 Spring Street in Bastrop. "Nunsense" is a comedic musical that follows the crazy antics of five nuns after most of the sisters are poisoned and die. The sisters find themselves strapped for cash, and they still have four dead nuns to bury, whose bodies are being stored in the kitchen freezer! The nuns decide to put on a musical benefit performance in order to raise the rest of the money before the health department discovers their secret. Tickets are $8-$15/person and can be purchased online here.

2. "Sirens N Aquarius" - May 27th & 28th, 7:30pm at Playhouse Smithville, located at 110 Main Street in Smithville. "Sirens N Aquarius" is a rock and roll celebration that takes you down the path of the songs of the '60s with poetry, scenes, and peaceful thoughts of a woman on the moon. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased online here.

3. Summer Movies in the Yard: "Rudy" - May 27th, 7:30pm at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard, located in the Crossing at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Bring a blanket and/or chair. Admissions is FREE!

4. Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike - May 28th, 10-11am in Bastrop State Park. Join a Master Naturalist on a 1-mile guided hike. Free after park entry fees. *There is also a Discover the Lost Pines Guided Hike at Buescher State Park on May 28th from 10-11am.

5. Memorial Weekend Bash - May 28th, 1pm-1am at Back 9 Bar, located at 834 Hwy 71 W in Bastrop. Live music featuring the Jaime Krueger Group and the James Soto Band, washers, corn hole, and a big crawfish & shrimp boil!

6. Kid's Decorating Class - May 28th, 2pm at Johnson's Bakery, located at 715 Old Austin Hwy, Ste. 300 in Bastrop. $15/child. Call (512) 412-6221 to RSVP.

7. Elgin Praise in the Park - May 28th, 5-9pm at the Pavillion in Veteran's Memorial Park in Elgin. Live music, dancing, food, and praise & worship! Admission is FREE!

8. Salsa Dance Night - May 28th, 8pm-1am at La Hacienda, located at 1800 Walnut Street in Bastrop. Lessons are from 8:00-9:30pm and dancing is from 9:30pm-1:00am. $5/person cover, includes lessons.

9. Comedy in the Backyard - May 28th, 8:00-10:30pm at Eva Mae's Kitchen, located at 313 N. Main Street in Elgin. Hosted by Blue da Comic and featuring Bryson Brown, Kris Atkins, and Mahdee Harris. Ages 18 and up. Admission is FREE!

10. Wildflower & Pollinator Hike - May 29th, 10am-12pm at Bastrop State Park. Discover an area of the park typically closed to visitors. Led by a Texas Master Naturalist, this 2-mile hike requires a 5-mile drive out to the hike location in a personal high-clearance vehicle. Pre-registration is required. Free after park entry fees.
