Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (May 26-29, 2017)


1. May Music Fest - May 25th-28th at Back 9 Bar, located at 834 Hwy 71 W in Bastrop. Featuring live music by London & David, Briana Adams Band, Wyatt Weaver Band, and the Wyatt Ellis Band & James Soto Band. Admission is FREE!

2. Yoga for Moms! - May 26th, 6:00-7:30pm at Yoga with Katy, located at 28 N. Main Street in Elgin. Led by Alison Garza of HippyWife YogaLife. Enjoy yoga, door prizes, refreshments, and mingling! $12/person.

3. "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" - May 26th & 27th, 7:30pm at Playhouse Smithville, located at 110 Main Street in Smithville. You'll meet beloved character Charlie Brown and his friends Snoopy, Lucy, Schroeder, Linus, and more! $15/person.

4. Chimney Swift Bird Viewing - May 26th, 7:30-8:30pm at Bastrop State Park. Join Ranger Kristen at the Scenic Overlook to see if you can spot any of these fascinating feathered friends fly into their roost for the night. Free after park entry fees. 5. We Grow, We Cook, We Eat! - May 27th, 1-3pm at the Smithville Church of Christ, located at 1416E Whitehead Street in Smithville. Cooking class for kids (ages 8 & up) and their parents, using ingredients from the Smithville Community Gardens. Admission is FREE!

6. Smithville Memorial Day Ceremony - May 29th, 9:45-10:45am at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 311 NW 2nd Street in Smithville. "Laying of the Wreaths" ceremony at 9:45am, followed at 11am at a special ceremony for veterans at the VFW, located at 557 NW Loop 230 in Smithville. Admission is FREE!

7. Bastrop Memorial Day Ceremony - May 29th, 10-11am at Fairview Cemetery, located at 1311 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Memorial Day Ceremony is a "memorial service event" to remember all U. S. military personnel who died in wars or other military actions and those veterans who have died since their return home from war. Weather permitting, there will be a flyover by the Commemorative Air Force. Admission is FREE!

8. The Murph Challenge - May 29th, 10am-12pm at Bastrop County Strength, located at 100 Harmon Road in Bastrop. The Murph Challenge is in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005 and depicted in the movie "Lone Survivor." The workout includes starting with a 1-mile run, doing 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats, and finishing with another 1-mile run. Register online here; although you do not have to register to participate. Proceeds benefit the Michael Murphy Scholorship Foundation.

9. Memorial Day Splash & Bash - May 29th, 11am-5pm at Zip Lost Pines, located at 1760 Hwy 71 W in Cedar Creek. Enjoy a day full of food, vendors, face painting, games, arts & crafts, snow cones, water slides, and more! Zip line for a special Memorial Day rate, or come and hike the beautiful trails of McKinney Roughs Nature Park. Active Duty and Veterans will receive special discounts for the FULL zip tour. BYOB. Admission is FREE!

10. Memorial Day Golf Tournament - May 29th, 1pm at ColoVista Golf Club, located at 100 Country Club Drive in Bastrop. Format: Flag Tournament. All Golfers begin the round with a set number of strokes (related to their handicap) and they play until their strokes run out. The player who makes it the furthest with their allotment of strokes wins. Entry fee is $30/members $60/non-members; includes entry fee, range balls, dinner, & prizes.
