Top 10 Things to Do This Weekend (July 21-23, 2017)

1. "Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage" - July 21st & 22nd, 7:30pm at the 1832 Tavern, located at 809 Main Street in Bastrop. Doors open at 7:20pm. Presented by Lost Rabbit Collective, "Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage" is a dark comedy by Jane Martin. Tickets are $25/person, and Student, Senior, Military, Veteran's, Group, and Industry rates are available. This is the last weekend!!!

2. Steel & More Fun Shoot - July 22nd, beginning at 8am at UPTEX Shooting Range, located at 1436 FM 2571 in Smithville. This event is for the everyday shooter, i.e. you must know handgun use and safety as well as how to load and shoot your firearm. There will be a specific number of rounds allowed per participant and the scoring will be based on the number of hits within the allotted time. Each participant will get two chances at the various targets for a combined total of hits in order to determine the winner. A trophy will be awarded to the "Top Shot." Admission is $35/person.

3. Poké Safari - July 22nd, 9:00-10:30am at Bastrop State Park. Pokémon aren't the only creatures that "evolve" as they grow! Join a Park Ranger to explore some real-life critters that transform as they grow up.  Use nets to try to capture these real-life critters, and search for Pokemon and incubate their eggs. 4. End of Summer Reading Finale Party - July 22nd, 11am-2pm at the Bastrop Public Library, located at 1100 Church Street in Bastrop. Big games will be set up inside, including an inflatable slide, giant Jenga, Karaoke, Just Dance, an obstacle course, and more. Plus, hot dogs, chips, and cookies will be available. Admission is FREE!

5. Survival Skills Saturday - July 22nd, 2-3pm at Buescher State Park. Join Ranger Kristen at the Amphitheater to learn some survival skills. She has extensive backcountry wilderness experience, including a 33 day canoe expedition in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. Beginners are welcome! 6. Cotton Bowl Speedway Racing - July 22nd, 5:00-11:30pm at Cotton Bowl Speedway, located at 1175 CR 202 in Paige. Gates open at 5pm, races begin at 7pm. General Admission: $15/Adult, $12/Military, Seniors, & Students, $5/Child ages 6-12, Children 5 & under FREE; Pit Pass Admission: $30/person.

7. Paige Ice House 30th Anniversary Celebration - July 22nd, 6pm-1am at Paige Ice House, located at 277 Old Hwy 20 E in Paige. Live music by The Texas Outlaws, Paint Creek Thunderheads, and Brother Stone. BBQ will be available for sale. Admission is FREE!

8. Movie Night at the Ranch - July 22nd, beginning at 8:30pm at 2200 Hwy 21 E in Paige. Come watch the movie "Sing" under the star!. Free snow cones and popcorn! Pupusas (a Salvadorian dish) can be purchased for $2. Bring your own blankets/chairs and drinks. No alcohol. Dogs are ok on leashes. Admission is FREE!

9. Yoga! in the Park! - July 23rd, 8:30-9:30am at Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard, located in the Crossing at 601 Chestnut Street in Bastrop. Suggested donation $10-$20/person. A portion of the proceeds are donated to Keep Bastrop County Beautiful.

10. African Drum Classes - June 23rd, 3-4pm at Be a Deer, Dear, located at 1022 Main Street in Bastrop. Discover the joy of drumming and learn to speak DJEMBE! Drums provided if you don't have your own, or you may purchase a drum from Be A Deer, Dear Jewelry and Gift Shop. The cost is $80/person for the 6-week session, or those interested in taking a single class may do so at a cost of $20/person per class. Reserve your spot early as class size is limited.
